ACR Perspectives Director (Academic-Industry)

Maura Scott, Florida State University

Maura Scottis the Madeline Duncan Rolland Professor of Business Administration at Florida State University (Ph.D. Arizona State University, M.S. and B.S. Purdue University). Her research interests include over-consumption behavior, goal setting, and self-regulation, with a focus on consumer and societal well-being. She is interested in studying how to help improve consumer financial decision-making and consumer health decision-making, particularly among vulnerable populations. Maura has published in theJournal of Consumer Research,Journal of Marketing Research,Journal of Consumer Psychology,Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science,Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, among other leading journals.

Maura serves as Area Editor for theJournal of the Academy of Marketing Scienceand as Associate Editor for theJournal of Public Policy & Marketing. She also serves on the Editorial Review Boards of leading journals, includingJournal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology,andJournal of Retailing.

Her research has won an Honorable Mention for theJCRRobert Ferber Award, theJPP&MKinnear Award for Best Paper, ACR Transformative Consumer Research Grants, an ACR-MSI Shopper Marketing Grant, and an MSI Customer Experience Grant. She was also selected as an MSI Young Scholar.

Her industry background includes marketing management roles at 3M Company (new product development), Dial Corporation (brand management) and Motorola (marketing research). Her scholarly research has involved collaborations with financial institutions and healthcare organizations. Maura's research is inspired by the literature, her industry experience, and attention to pressing social issues in the world today.

Maura has been an active member of ACR since she was a doctoral student. In 2019, she co-chaired the Transformative Consumer Research conference, in 2017, she co-chaired the ACR Working Paper and Data Blitz sessions, and in 2016, she served as Associate Editor for ACR in Berlin. She has served on several ACR program committees and has been an invited faculty member for multiple ACR Doctoral Symposia. She regularly attends ACR and was delighted to participate as ACR expanded its global presence in new venues to include the ACR-Asia Pacific Conference in Hong Kong and the ACR Conference in Berlin, Germany. She looks forward to ACR each year as a fun and enriching setting to help move the discipline forward through exchanging ideas and building professional friendships.

Position’s Duties and Responsibilities

The Perspectives Director (Academic-Industry)
participates in and votes on all matters put to the ACR Board of Directors and attends the annual Board of Directors Meeting held at the North American conference. The Academic-Industry perspectives Director is responsible for representing the academic-industry perspective on the Board. Responsibilities include voting, budgets, recommendations to the Board, and evaluating grants and donations.
